As an AI Designer at Escape Velocity, youll craft intelligent systems that bring our game worlds to life. You design NPC behaviors, create emergent gameplay systems, and implement machine learning techniques to enhance player immersion. This role blends technical implementation with creative design - you work closely with both programmers and narrative designers to develop AI that supports our games vision while delivering unforgettable player experiences.

What You'll Do
- 1Design and implement AI systems for NPC behaviors
- 2Create behavior trees and finite state machines
- 3Develop procedural content generation systems
- 4Balance AI difficulty curves based on playtesting
- 5Collaborate with programmers on AI architecture
- 6Work with narrative designers on character personalities
- 7Optimize AI performance for target platforms
- 8Research and prototype new AI techniques
- 9Document AI systems for other team members
- 10Analyze player data to improve AI interactions
What We're Looking For
- Portfolio demonstrating game AI projects
- Experience with AI middleware (e.g., RAIN, Behavior Designer)
- Understanding of game design principles
- Proficiency in AI scripting (C#, Python, or similar)
- Knowledge of machine learning applications in games
- Ability to balance technical and creative requirements
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Passion for innovative game experiences
- Experience with Unity or Unreal Engine (preferred)
- Bachelor degree in Game Design, CS, or related field (or equivalent experience)
